Editor's Note

Hey, Insider! It’s Olena here.

Staying active during the winter months can be hard for everyone, which is why we’d like to invite you to a New Year’s challenge that will keep us all moving after the busy holiday season! Speaking of the holidays, there will be no newsletter on December 27, so you’ll hear from us again on January 10.

Join members of the iPhone Life team and fellow On the Watch readers in a friendly challenge to keep moving and be our best selves. The only goal is to motivate each other to start the year right by staying active, which is great for your mental and physical health. We’ll be using the free Challenges app for the month of January, and if all goes well, we might continue doing it as a monthly challenge! Scroll down to learn more about the challenge in our Deep Dive.

We’ve also got more great Apple Watch trivia, tips on tracking your fitness progress, and fun and interesting tidbits from around the web. Plus, I’ll be answering some questions that our readers have sent in, including how to connect a second Apple Watch to your iPhone.

Happy Reading!

🌊🤿 DEEP DIVE: Join our friendly virtual challenge to stay motivated

iPhone Life is launching a free virtual challenge so you can join us and your fellow readers as we work toward our fitness goals in a safe and fun environment. We are aiming to motivate each other to stay active as our New Year’s resolution. Please keep in mind that we are not medical professionals or personal trainers, so make sure your doctor approves your workout plan.

Challenge yourself alongside others, not against them

Not all competitions are made equal, and our challenge stands out from others because the goal is to be our better selves, not to be better than anyone else. We’re using the Challenges - Compete, Get Fit app (free), which will take information from your Apple Watch and the Health app to give you a daily goal that’s achievable yet challenging—so that you can work on moving more safely without unnecessary pressure. The Challenges app is made by the same developer as Lose It! – Calorie Counter (Free) so if you already have an account with them, you can log in with it. Otherwise, just follow the prompts to set up a new account.

Collect up to 98 points a day

Every participant can earn up to 98 points a day, whether their goal is to walk around the block or to run ten miles a day. Points are earned by getting active calories, exercise minutes, and stand hours. Plus, you get bonus points for closing all your Activity Rings!

How to join the challenge and invite your friends

To join the iPhone Life January Fitness Challenge, download the free Challenges app on your iPhone, and enter this code YQKA when prompted. If you need any help joining the challenge, this article explains the steps and tells you more about the app. We’ll publish the list of usernames who complete the January challenge in our February 7 newsletter!

🤔❓ READER QUESTIONS

You asked and we answered!

Q: How do I sync a second watch to my iPhone? - Neil C.

Hello Neil, great question! Open the Watch app on your iPhone, make sure you are on the My Watch tab, and tap All Watches in the top left corner. Then, tap Add Watch and follow the on-screen steps. The setup steps will be very similar to setting up your first Apple Watch. If you set up both watches for yourself, don’t forget that you can switch between them in the Watch app by tapping All Watches in the top left corner of the My Watch tab.

Q: My watch face says “complications” across the top. What can I do to correct that? - Lois R.

Hello Lois, I’ve had this happen to me too! You need to go into your Watch Face editing settings and change the complication. This can happen due to a random glitch or because you updated your watch, but the developer of the app that made the complication hasn’t made the proper adjustments for the new software. I’d try changing to a different complication first. If that works, try re-adding your original complication. If you still see “complications” written there when you switch it back, then you’ll have to wait for that particular app to update before you can use the complication again.

✉️ Email your questions to OnTheWatch@iPhoneLife.com and we might answer them in a future edition! Questions may be edited for clarity and length.
